Box Score (MONTEVALLO, Ala., Feb. 14)- The McKendree University softball team racked up 13 hits on Sunday, but weren't able to get them when it needed them the most in a 11-7 loss at University of Montevallo.
The Bearcats fall to 2-8 overall and are scheduled to host Kentucky Weslyen College on Sunday, Feb. 21 for a doubleheader at 12 p.m.
McKendree had four players with multiple hits in the game, including
Rachel Hastings (Forsyth, Ill./Maroa-Forsyth High School) going 4-for-4 with a double, three RBI and a walk. The Bearcats trailed 3-0 after the top of the first, but a double by Hastings scored
Jamie Doggendorf (Dittmer, Mo./Northwest) and
Hanna Branch (Kirkwood, Mo./Kirkwood) to cut the deficit to 3-2. The Falcons extended their lead to 8-2 with three runs in the top of the second and two in the top of third, before
Rebecca Franke (Trenton, Ill./Wesclin) drew a bases loaded walk that brought in
Danielle Sweeney (St. Louis, Mo./Lindbergh High School) to cut the score to 8-3.
A single by
Abbi Liske (Ashley, Ill./Nashville High School) in the bottom of the fourth scored Branch to make the score 8-4, but Montevallo struck again with three runs in the top of the fifth to take a 11-4 lead. A double by Branch in the fifth inning, her second of the game, score Doggendorf and
Tylin Stephens (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs High School) to cut the defiict to 11-6, and a single by Hastings in the seventh inning scored Stephens to get within 11-7, but it wouldn't be enough in the loss.
Brooke Gajewski (Kronenwetter, Wis./D.C. Everest) fell to 0-4 on the season with the loss.
