Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 (LEBANON, Ill., Feb. 21)- The McKendree University softball team swept its home opening doubleheader against Kentucky Wesleyan College on Sunday in grand fashion, hitting three grand slams on its way to 10-0 and 9-0 wins in five and six innings, respectively.

The Bearcats improve to 4-8 overall and will travel to Joplin, Mo., on Feb. 27-28 to for four games at the Missouri Southern State University Tournament.

McKendree scored four runs in the third inning of game one, and added six runs over the fourth and fifth innings to cruise to a 10-0 win in five innings.

Rachel Hastings (Forsyth, Ill./Maroa-Forsyth High School) hit an RBI single in the third inning that scored Tylin Stephens (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs High School) to get the Bearcats on the board, and a double by Marla Schulte (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) scored Hanna Branch (Kirkwood, Mo./Kirkwood) and Hastings to boost the lead to 3-0. Schulte later scored from third on a fielders choice on a double steal attempt to extend the lead to 4-0. In the fourth inning, Stephens hit a two-out double and scored on the next at bat on a single by Jamie Doggendorf (Dittmer, Mo./Northwest) to build a 5-0 lead.

Schulte hit an RBI single in the fifth inning that scored Kyla Haukap (Dawson, Ill./Buffalo Tri-City), and pinch hitter Abbi Liske (Ashley, Ill./Nashville High School) hit a grand slam to end the game 10-0 after five innings.

Maci Ingram (Woodlawn, Ill./Nashville Community High School) improved to 2-2 overall and only gave up two hits, while striking out eight. Schulte had two hits, three RBI and a run scored to lead McKendree offensively in game one.

The Bearcats got all the offense it needed in the fifth and sixth innings of game two to earn the sweep following a 9-0 win.

Doggendorf hit a grand slam in the fifth inning to give McKendree a 4-0 lead, and a double by Dani Schoenbacher (Tamaroa, Ill./Pinckeyville) later in the inning scored Liske to push the lead to 5-0. The Bearcats loaded the bases again in the sixth inning, and Schulte hit a pinch hit grand slam to end the game 9-0 after six innings.

Holly Magre (Festus, Mo./St. Pius X) improved to 2-2 overall and had nine strikeouts in the victory. Schulte and Doggendorf's grand slams were both their lone hits in game two, with Schulte posting four RBI and a run scored, and Doggendorf scoring twice with four RBI.
