(LEBANON, Ill., Feb. 27)- The McKendree University women's lacrosse team scored 11 goals in the second half on Saturday to earn a 18-10 win over Rockhurst University.
The Bearcats improved to 1-1 overall and will travel to Indianapolis, Ind., to play University of Indianapolis on Saturday, March 5 at 12 p.m. ET in a Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference match.
Sophomores
Paige Salthouse (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) and
Dana DiPasquale (St. Charles, Mo./Barat Academy) led McKendree with five and four goals, respectively. DiPasquale also had a team-high three assists. Senior
Shirley Boland (St. Louis, Mo./Ursuline Academy) and Salthouse each had three draw controls, and Boland also had a team-high five ground balls and four cause turnovers. Junior goalie
Amy Porta (Ellisville, Mo./Marquette) improved to 1-1 overall and had 16 saves in the win.
The match was tied, 7-7, at the half, but the Bearcats outscored the Hawks, 11-3, in the second half to cruise to the win. DiPasquale and Boland both scored goals out of the break to put McKendree in front, 9-7, before Rockhurst scored to cut the score to 9-8. The Bearcats rattled off eight-straight goals, including three from Salthouse, to jump out to a 17-8 lead. The Hawk scored back-to-back goals to cut their deficit to 17-10, but senior
Bree Suter (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) scored the final goal of the game with 16-seconds left to finish the game 18-10.
