Box Score 2 (JOPLIN, Mo.,Feb. 28)- The McKendree University softball team lost both of its games on Sunday at the Missouri Southern State University tournament.
The Bearcats fall to 5-11 overall and will host Missouri Baptist University at 2 p.m., on Wedensday, march 2 for a doubleheader.
Game One-Northwest Missouri State - 6
McKendree - 0
McKendree was unable to get its offense rolling game one with only two hits in a 6-0 loss to Northwest Missouri State University.
NW Missouri State led 2-0 after three innings, before adding three runs in the fourth inning, and an additional run in the fifth inning to earn the 6-0 win. Freshman maci Ingram fell to 2-4 overall and had three strikeouts in the loss, while senior
Taylor Barnouski (O'Fallon, Ill./O'Fallon Township) pitched 3.2 innings in relief and struck out one.
Jamie Doggendorf (Dittmer, Mo./Northwest) and
Hanna Branch (Kirkwood, Mo./Kirkwood) each had one hit in the loss.
Game Two-Missouri Western State University - 4
McKendree University - 3, 9 inn.
The Bearcats rallied in the second game of the day, tying the game, 3-3, in the fifth inning, but surrendered a run in the bottom of the ninth to fall in game two to Missouri Western State University, 4-3.
Holly Magre (Festus, Mo./St. Pius X) reached on an error by the shortstop in the fourth inning that scored
Megan Radae (Edwardsville, Ill./Edwardsville High School) from second to cut the deficit to 3-1. The Bearcats went on to tie the game in the fifth inning with two runs. A single by
Brooke Gajewski (Kronenwetter, Wis./D.C. Everest) scored
Tylin Stephens (Blue Springs, Mo./Blue Springs High School) from third, and Doggendorf later scored on a double steal to tie the game. The game remained tied into the ninth inning when the Griffons scored the wining run on a double to end the game 4-3. Gajewski had three hits and an RBI for McKendree, while
Dani Schoenbacher (Tamaroa, Ill./Pinckeyville) added two hits. Magre fell to 3-3 overall and had 12 strikeouts in 8 2/3 innings pitched.
