(LEBANON, Ill., Sept. 4) The McKendree University men's soccer team grab its first win of the 2016 season with a 5-1 victory over Oakland City University on Sunday afternoon.
The Bearcats opened scoring in the 32
nd minute with a
Marcus Taylor (Anna. Ill./Anna-Jonesboro) goal coming from a cross off the foot of
Dylan Cassidy (Dublin, Ireland/Lucan).
Oakland City tied the game up at one off of a Ryan Blair penalty kick.
McKendree would put together a second half rally with four goals.
Musa Kalombe (Harare, Zimbabwe/Prince Edward ) got on the scoring sheet netting an unassisted goal.
Clemente Rossi (Santiago, Chile/Saint George's College) then was fouled inside the box which lead to a penalty kick. Rossi would capitalize on this opportunity to bring the Bearcats ahead 3-1. In the 78
th minute
Blake Johnson (St. Louis, MO/Oakville Sr. ) scored the Bearcats fourth goal off a header coming from a Cassidy cross.
Abdoulaye Bah (Villeneuve-La-Garenne, France/Lycee Albert Camus) then scored a header in the 85
th minute coming from a Cassidy corner kick (Cassidy's third assist of the day).
Ian Bender (Edwardsville, IL/Scott Gallagher Academy) was in net for the Bearcats recording five saves on Oakland City's 14 shot attempts.
The Bearcats being a three game home stand with the conference opener Friday, September 9 at 7:30 p.m. as they take on Truman State.
