(LEBANON, Ill., Jan. 18)--The McKendree University women's basketball team will host a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conferences games this weekend inside the Harry M. Statham Sports Center. The Bearcats tip-off against the University of Indianapolis Thursday at 5:30 p.m. before welcoming Saint Joseph's College Saturday at 1 p.m.
McKendree holds an overall record of 9-7 and are 0-6 in the GLVC this season.
The Bearcats are led by senior forward
Ellie Pusheck (South Milwaukee, Wis./South Milwaukee), who leads the team in scoring with an average of 8.9 points per game on .560 shooting to go with 3.6 rebounds. Fellow senior forward
Emily Pusheck (South Milwaukee, Wis./South Milwaukee) is second on the team, averaging 8.2 points coming off the bench to pair with 5.3 boards and a team high 11 blocks. Senior guard
Shannon McGinnis (Niles, Ill./Trinity) averages 7.6 points along with a team high 6.3 rebounds per game. Freshman guard
Jordan Heberg (Romeoville, IL/Plainfield North) and senior guard
Amber Alexander (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway North) round out the top scorers for McKendree with 6.5 and 5.7 scoring averages, while Heberg leads the team in three point field goal percentage at .304, while Alexander leads the team in both assists and steals at 48 and 23 respectively.
ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY OF INDIANAPOLIS
The Greyhounds enter the weekend with a record of 11-6 including a 5-2 clip in league play. Indianapolis is paced by junior guard Sydney Brackemyre who averages 16.8 points and 6.4 rebounds per game. Brackemyre is shooting .477 from beyond the arc and leads the team with 21 blocks. Junior guard Martha Burse is second on the team in scoring at 14.4 points per game along with 5.2 boards and a team high 3.6 assists per game. Junior guard Sarah Costello also averages double figures in points at 11.6 to pair with 4.5 rebounds. Senior forward Nicole Anderson leads the Greyhounds in rebounding averaging 7.6 per game. McKendree topped Indianapolis 54-51 in the regular season a year ago, but the Greyhounds returned the favor when the teams tangled in the GLVC Tournament, coming out on top 60-47 to close the Bearcats season. The teams share a 0-1 record versus common opponents this season after each team fell to Hillsdale College in non-conference action.
ABOUT SAINT JOSEPH'S COLLEGE
The Pumas hold a record of 7-10 overall and are 3-4 in the GLVC this season. Saint Joseph's is led offensively by senior forward Kalea Parks who leads the team in points (14.7), rebounds (6.2), and total blocks (19). Sophomore guard Lauren Ruth has chipped in 10.4 points per game to pair with 3.1 boards while shooting .423 from deep. Senior guard Brittany Morris has dished out a team high 5.4 assists per game and is one steal shy of the team high with 20. McKendree topped the Pumas 60-48 in the team's only matchup a season ago and shares a 0-1 record with Saint Jospeh's against common opponents this season after each team fell to Hillsdale this season.
