(LEBANON, Ill., Jan. 25)--The McKendree University women's basketball team returns to the road for pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference this week starting Thursday in Romeoville, IL as the Bearcats take on the Flyers of Lewis University at 5:30 p.m. before wrapping up the weekend Saturday at 1 p.m. in Kenosha, WI against the University of Wisconsin-Parkside.
McKendree enters the week with a 10-8 overall and 1-7 in the GLVC after earning its first league win of the season last Saturday against Saint Joseph's College.
Senior forward
Ellie Pusheck (South Milwaukee, Wis./South Milwaukee) leads the Bearcats averaging 8.9 points per game on .548 shooting to go with 3.7 rebounds per game. Fellow senior forward
Emily Pusheck (South Milwaukee, Wis./South Milwaukee) is second on the squad averaging 8.0 points off the bench along with 5.3 rebounds and a team high 12 blocks. Senior guard
Shannon McGinnis (Niles, Ill./Trinity) and freshman guard
Jordan Heberg (Romeoville, IL/Plainfield North) each hold 7.5 point scoring averages while McGinnis adds a team high 6.7 boards as Heberg leads McKendree from beyond the arc shooting .333 from deep. Senior guard
Amber Alexander (St. Louis, Mo./Parkway North) rounds out the top scorers for the Bearcats at 6.1 points per game, while leading the team in both assists and steals at 3.1 and 1.4 per game respectively.
ABOUT LEWIS UNIVERSITY
The Flyers hold a record of 14-5 overall and are 6-3 in the GLVC. Lewis is led offensively by sophomore forward Jessica Kelliher who leads the league in scoring at 20.1 points per game this season shooting .691 from the field. Kelliher also ranks 10th in the league with 7.5 rebounds per game and is second in blocks at 1.6 per game. Senior guard Jamie Johnson is second on the team and ranks third in the GLVC with a 17.9 scoring average to go with 3.2 rebounds per game and 1.4 steals. Sophomore guard Gabby Green leads the Flyers in assists with 3.5 per game. Lewis is 3-1 against common opponents of the Bearcats this season, while McKendree is 1-3 in those contests. The Flyers topped the Bearcats 51-46 in their only meeting a season ago.
ABOUT THE UNIVERSITY OF WISCONSIN-PARKSIDE
The Rangers enter the week on a two-game slide and hold a record of 5-12 overall including a 3-6 showing in GLVC play. Wisconsin-Parkside is paced by senior guard Brittney Fair who has put up averages of 13.8 points, 3.2 rebounds, 2.5 assists, and 1.4 steals per game this season. Sophomore guards Taylor Stephen and Lauren Boerger along with junior center Shelby Cheston each average 6.4 points per game with Stephan leading the team in assists and steals at 2.6 and 1.5, while Cheston leads the team in blocks at 1.8 per game, which leads the GLVC. The Rangers are 0-5 against shared opponents of McKendree this season, while the Bearcats are 1-4 in similar games. McKenree topped Wisconsin-Parkside 44-43 last season in the team's only matchup.
