(LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 21) – The McKendree University women's hockey team shutout Davenport University at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex on Saturday afternoon, with a 3-0 victory.
No. 12 McKendree improves to 3-2 overall, with the defeat of No. 15 Davenport University. The Bearcats held the Panthers to just nine shots in the game, while firing 48 shots on the Panther's goal.
McKendree scored first in the contest, when sophomore forward
Chase Hallemann (Ballwin, MO/Marquette) sent a pass to sophomore forward
Alyssa Albee (Brookfield, WI/Brookfield Central) who buried the puck past the Panthers netminder. Sophomore forward
Allison Sauvola (Eagle River, WI/Northland Pines) added to the Bearcats lead with a power-play goal. Freshman forward
Paris Suzuki (Covina, California/Covina High School) and Albee registered assists on Sauvola's goal. At the end of the first period McKendree led Davenport by a score of 2-0.
The two teams played to a stalemate in the second period, with neither team scoring. Hallemann extended McKendree's lead to three in the third period on a pass from sophomore forward
Lara Wentz (Bismark, ND/). The Bearcats held on to the 3-0 lead through the remainder of the game, taking the shutout win.
Sophomore goalie
Jazmin Malinowski (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln-Way) got the nod to start the game, turning aside all nine shots to record her second shutout of the season. Malinowski improves to 3-1 on the season, with an impressive 0.50 goals-against average and a save percentage of 0.981. Albee and Hallemann each recorded a goal and an assist in the game for two points. Albee now has four points, including three goals and one assist. Hallemann has three points with one goal and two assists.
