(Evansville, Ind., October 25) – The McKendree University women's soccer team improved to 12-2-3 overall and 9-2-3 in the Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) as they defeated the University of Southern Indiana 2-1 this evening to clinch the No. 2 seed for the conference tournament.
Southern Indiana struck first in the 40 minute of play when Olivia Wilde found the back of the net from an Ashley Hayes corner kick.
The explosive Bearcat offense came alive in the second half when
Sydnee Carroll (Millstadt, IL/Belleville West) put together an impressive rush beating multiple Screaming Eagles defenders to tie the game at 1-1 in the 46 minute of play.
Alynnah O'Leary (Collinsville, IL/Collinsville ) added the game-winner in the 68 minute of play to seal the 2-1 victory.
Kate Bixby (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt North) and
Danielle Knutson (Maryville, IL/Collinsville ) assisted on the goal.
In net for McKendree was
Zoe Brochu (Ajax, Ontario, Canada/Pickering) who totaled six saves in the match.
The women's soccer team will host the Quarterfinal Round of the GLVC Tournament on Sunday at Noon when the team welcomes the University of Indianapolis to Leemon Field.
