(St. Louis, MO, Oct. 28) -- The McKendree University women's volleyball team defeated the University of Missouri-St. Louis Tritons (17-7, 7-6 GLVC) in four sets on Saturday Afternoon. The Bearcats (19-5) have now won eight straight matches on the road, and remain undefeated in Great Lakes Valley Conference play at 13-0.

Senior outside hitter Arela Williams (San Diego, CA/LaJolla Country Day) was the top Bearcat, picking up 22 kills and 17 digs in the match, earning her tenth double-double of the season. Right-side hitter Amanda Geiger (Tomball, TX/Concordia Lutheran) put down 19 kills to go with nine digs, and sophomore libero Kelly Voss (St. Rose, IL/Mater Dei) led McKendree on defense, collecting 19 digs. Junior Morgan Melchert (Mt. Vernon, IA/Mt. Vernon) and freshman Elle Russell (Festus, MO/St. Pius X) combined for 24 digs and 11 kills. Senior Carissa Lorenz (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln-Way West) recorded six total blocks in the victory.

The Tritons scored the last four points of the first set, including the clinching kill by junior middle blocker Alex Miner, to take the 1-0 lead. The Bearcats responded in the second set, opening up a 16-10 lead. Geiger and Williams combined for thirteen kills in the set, helping McKendree tie the match at 1-1.

Both teams traded points to start the third set, battling to a ten-all tie early on. The Bearcats then went on a 7-2 scoring run to grab the momentum, on their way to a 22-25 set victory. The fourth frame was all McKendree, as they took 18 of the first 21 set points on route to a dominating 25-9 win.

The Bearcats will remain on the road next week, as they travel to Lewis University and the University of Wisconsin Parkside. Both matches can be streamed live online on the GLVC Sports Network.
