(FREMONT, Neb., Oct. 8) - The McKendree University women's hockey team rebounded on Sunday afternoon with a 4-1 victory over Midland University to split the weekend series.
The Bearcats fell in the first game of the series by a score of 2-1 on Saturday, but were able to bounce back with a 4-1 win on Sunday. McKendree improves to 2-2 overall on the season. The Bearcats struck first in the contest at the 11:35 mark of the first period with a goal by sophomore forward
Domenika Reusche (San Jose, CA/Archbishop Mitty) on a pass from freshman forward
Dakota Peterson (Battleford, Saskatchewan). The Warriors answered with just 42 seconds remaining in the period to tie the game 1-1.
The rest of the game was all Bearcats as they held the Warriors at bay for the rest of the game. Peterson netted a power play goal in the second period to give McKendree the 2-1 lead, with Reusche and sophomore goaltender
Jazmin Malinowski (New Lenox, IL/Lincoln-Way) recording assists. Sophomore forward
Alyssa Albee (Brookfield, WI/Brookfield Central) lit the lamp for an even strength marker with sophomore forwards
Chase Hallemann (Ballwin, MO/Marquette) and
Lara Wentz (Bismark, ND/) notching assists on the goal. The second period closed with McKendree leading Midland, 3-1. Reusche capped off the game with her second goal of the contest on an unassisted effort. The Bearcats took home the 4-1 win over the Warriors in Sunday's game.
McKendree is back on the ice for a matchup against Davenport University on October 21st at 2 p.m. at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex.
