(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 11)--The McKendree University women's basketball team will tip off its 2017-18 campaign Saturday evening at home against Blackburn College. Game time is set for 6 p.m. at the Harry M. Statham Sports Center.
Head coach
Kari Kerkhoff enters her third season at the helm of the Bearcats' program, and she has seven letterwinners -- including two starters -- back from a squad that went 10-18 a year ago. McKendree relied on a balanced offensive attack last season with seven players averaging between five and eight points per contest. Sophomore guard Jordan Heberg is the Bearcats' leading returning scorer as she posted 7.9 points per outing in her rookie season. Junior guard/forward Jordan Morton is the other returning starter for McKendree. She registered five points and 4.6 rebounds a game while dishing out 30 assists in her second season with the program.
McKendree prepped for the 2017-18 season by taking on a pair of NCAA Division I opponents. The Bearcats first took the court back on Oct. 29 at Southeast Missouri State University before facing the University of Missouri this past Monday.
Saturday's game will mark the lone home contest for McKendree in the month of November. The Bearcats were slated to take on the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez in non-conference play on Nov. 24, but the game was cancelled. McKendree's next home game will come on Thursday, Dec. 7 when the Bearcats host Truman State University in Great Lakes Valley Conference action.
ABOUT BLACKBURN COLLEGE
The Beavers were 1-22 during the 2016-17 season and 1-15 in the St. Louis Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. Maria Cline is the top returning scorer for the Beavers as she netted 6.9 points per game as a freshman. She also pulled down five rebounds per contest.
