(Lebanon, Ill., Nov. 11) – The McKendree University women's volleyball team defeated the Quincy University Hawks on Senior Day to close out the 2017 regular season. With the victory, the Bearcats improve to 22-7, finishing 16-2 in Great Lakes Valley Conference play for the second year in a row. They are the GLVC Central Division Champions, and have clinched the #2 seed in the conference tournament next weekend.
Seniors Arela Williams and Amanda Geiger combined for 41 total kills and 28 digs in their final match at the Statham Sports Center. Fellow senior Carissa Lorenz put down six kills and four blocks. Sophomore libero Kelly Voss collected a team high 18 digs, while junior setter Morgan Melchert picked up 11 to go with her 54 assists.
The Bearcats opened up a 10-5 advantage on Quincy in the first set, and cruised to a 25-20 victory. The Hawks changed their fortune in the second, winning 25-21, and evening the match at one set a-piece.
McKendree just got by the Hawks in the third set 25-23, scoring the last three points to take the 2-1 lead. It was all Bearcats in the fourth set, as they jumped out to an early 9-0 advantage in route to a 25-13 win, to take the match 3 sets to 1.
