(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 17)--The McKendree University men's basketball team will close out a season-opening two-game home stand on Saturday when the Bearcats entertain Robert Morris University-Springfield in non-conference play. Tip-off is set for 7 p.m. at the Harry M. Statham Sports Center. The game will also be carried live on the Bearcat Sports Network at
www.glvcsn.com/mckendree, beginning with the pre-game show at 6:50 p.m.
McKendree opened its 2017-18 season in fine fashion last Saturday with an 88-63 triumph over Principia College. Four of the Bearcats' five starters scored in double figures, led by newcomer Giovanni Offard with 18 points. Justin Blanks connected for 16 points, including 12 in the first half, while Malcolm Mabry debuted by posting the first double-double of the new season for McKendree with 15 points and 13 rebounds. Rathen Carter also had a solid first game in a McKendree uniform with 14 points, six rebounds and three blocks.Â
A pair of key returnees also made big contributions for the Bearcats in the win over the Panthers. Nate Michael came off the bench to register nine points, five rebounds, six assists and five steals. Nolan Gerling flirted with a double-double before finishing the night with eight points and eight rebounds to go along with a game-high four blocks.Â
The win over Principia extended the Bearcats' win streak in season openers to three games. McKendree trailed in the opening minutes before an 11-0 run pushed the Bearcats out to a 15-6 lead they would never relinquish. The victory was also career win No. 1,111 for McKendree head coach

Following Saturday's game with Robert Morris-Springfield, McKendree will play its first road game of the season on Wednesday at Trevecca Nazarene University. Tip-off is set for 4 p.m. at Trojan Fieldhouse in Nashville, Tenn. The game will the first of two meetings between the Bearcats and Trojans which will come in a span of three days. Trevecca Nazarene will visit the Statham Center next Saturday, Nov. 25, for a 3 p.m. clash.Â

A season after going 0-18, the Eagles already have a pair of wins to their credit. Robert Morris-Springfield is 2-3 on the season following a 117-52 loss on Wednesday at Eureka College. Jahari McGuire came off the bench to lead the Eagles with 12 points, while Westley Howard also reached double figures in the scoring column with 10 points. Despite shooting just 28.8 percent for the contest, Robert Morris-Springfield made 10 three-pointers against the Red Devils.Â
