(Dahlonega, Ga. Feb. 11) – The McKendree University softball team picked up their first wins of the 2017 campaign at the Steak 'n Shake Classic with a 10-2 win over Mars Hill College and a 10-4 win over University of West Georgia.
The Bearcats jump to 2-2 overall and will resume action on Sunday at 10:00 a.m. ET as they look to settle the score with Palm Beach Atlantic University who took a 2-1 extra inning game from McKendree in the season opener.
Game 1 – 5 Innings McKendree 10 Mars Hill 2
Mars Hill jumped on McKendree in the first inning scoring an unearned run on a Kaleigh Jonas sacrifice bunt.
Brooke Gajewski (Kronenwetter, Wis./D.C. Everest) would answer back with an RBI of her own in the bottom half of the inning driving in teammate
Jamie Doggendorf (Dittmer, Mo./Northwest) to tie the score at 1-1.
McKendree put up a crooked number in the fourth inning driving in eight Bearcats on six hits.
Rachel Hastings (Forsyth, Ill./Maroa-Forsyth ) picked up three RBI's in the inning on a single and double.
Holly Magre (Festus, Mo./St. Pius X) went the distance picking up her first win of the season to improve to 1-1. Magre struck out seven in five innings of work.
Game 2 – McKendree 10 West Georgia 4
In game two, McKendree jumped on the Wolves early posting six runs on six hits in the first inning. Hastings led the charge again offensively for the Bearcats driving in four runs in three at-bats. Doggendorf followed with two RBI's of her own. Hannah Branch started the Bearcat rally in the first inning with a single to drive in Doggendorf. Branch went 2-3 with an RBI.
On the mound for McKendree was
Kylee Silliman (Fremont, IA/Oskaloosa ) who went five innings and recorded her first win of the season moving to 1-1.
Maci Ingram (Woodlawn, Ill./Nashville Community ) closed out the game tossing two scoreless innings.
