(HUDSONVILLE, Mich., Feb. 12) – The McKendree University women's water polo team earned two more wins as they defeated Lindenwood University 16-9, and Illinois State University 15-3, on Sunday morning.
The Bearcats improve to 3-5 overall, and 3-1 in Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Midwest Division play.
McKendree's first game of the day began at 8:30 a.m. against Lindenwood University. The Bearcats found the back of the net four times in the first quarter as freshman attacker
Brianna Mullalley (Chula Vista, CA/Eastlake High School) netted three of her own, along with one marker from junior center
Sabrina Sherrin (San Jose, CA/West Valley Junior College). McKendree held a 4-2 lead after the first quarter. Mullalley continued scoring in the second quarter, adding two more goals of her own alongside freshman attacker
Catie Young (Rancho Cucamonga, CA/Los Osos High School), who found the back of the net three times. The Bearcats held a 9-6 lead over Lindenwood heading into halftime. McKendree continued to score in the third quarter with sophomore
Jillian Hoffman (Prospect Heights, IL) and freshman
Victoria Jones (Lodi, CA/Tokay High School) each scoring two of their own. At the end of the third quarter the Bearcats lead the Lions 13-8. The fourth quarter saw three more goals for the Bearcats, scored by Jones, Mullalley, and freshman attacker
Valerie Sorondo (Orlando, FL/Lake Nona High School). McKendree ended up taking home the victory over Lindenwood by a final score of 16-9.
The second game of the day for the Bearcats came against Illinois State University at 11:45 a.m. McKendree held the Redbirds scoreless in the first quarter, as they netted six goals of their own. Jones scored three goals, Mullalley scored twice, and Sorondo added one to give the Bearcats a 6-0 lead after the first quarter. McKendree continued to score in the second quarter firing four goals past the Illinois State goaltender. Young netted one goal, Sherrin scored two, and Jones scored once to give the Bearcats a 10-2 lead over the Redbirds at halftime. Sherrin was able to score two more times in the third quarter, while McKendree held Illinois State to one goal to lead 12-3 heading into the final quarter. The Bearcats were able to hold the Redbirds scoreless as Jones added two more goals in the fourth quarter, along with one goal from Sherrin to give McKendree a 15-3 victory.
The Bearcats are back in action at the Hoosier Invite at Indiana University on February 24 & 25.
