(LEBANON, Ill., Feb. 24) —The McKendree University softball team will head to Evansville, Ind. to partake in the Midwest Region Crossover. Looking to improve on their 5-4 record, McKendree will square off against first time opponents, as well as some familiar faces.
McKendree will take on Ferris State University at 11:00 a.m., followed by a 1:00 p.m. contest against Ohio Dominican on Friday, February 24. The Bearcats will continue action on Saturday, February 25 at 1:00 p.m. against Trevecca Nazarene Univeristy, followed by a rematch with Saginaw Valley State at 3:00 p.m. To close out the long weekend, McKendree will take on Northwood Univeristy at 10:00 a.m. followed by a 12:00 p.m. contest against Hillsdale College.

SCOUTING THE BULLDOGS: Ferris State University enter their first weekend of play for the 2017 season. Last season, the Bulldogs posted a 36-18 overall record and finished tied for third in the GLIAC. The return a pair of all-region selections in
Bailey Darwin and
Alexx Astorga along with several veterans in the form of 15 returning letterwinners. The roster also includes eight freshmen.
SCOUTING THE PANTHERS: Ohio Dominican posted a 3-3 record last weekend at the Music City Invitational, which included a 9-1 win over McKendree in the weekend finale. Winning 3 of their last five contests, the Panthers are behind the arm of freshman Cameron Barber who collected GLIAC Pitcher of the Week honors. At the plate, McKendree will look to contain junior Taylor Kline who is off to a hot 11-for-24 start posting a .458 batting average.
SCOUTING THE TROJANS: Trevecca Nazarene University enters the weekend at 3-4 after going 1-1 last weekend at the Music City Invitational. The Trojans enter the weekend following an 8-5 victory over Truman State. At the plate, Mary Collins leads the Trojans in batting average at .474, while three different players have recorded five RBI.
SCOUTING THE CARDINALS: Saginaw Valley State University enters the weekend having gone 2-3 last week at the Music City Invitational. One of the two wins were against McKendree by a score of 8-5. Meredith Rousse was selected as the GLIAC Softball Player of the Week after hitting .769 (10-for-13) with a home run, triple, pair of doubles and five RBI.
SCOUTING THE TIMBERWOLVES: Northwood University will enter its' first weekend of play for the 2017 season. After going 16-26 overall and 7-19 in the GLIAC, the Timberwolves were projected to finish 11th in their conference. Northwoods carries over a 10-game losing streak from last season and will play Bellarmine, Trevecca Nazarene, Southern Indiana, and Indianapolis before taking on the Bearcats Sunday.
SCOUTING THE CHARGERS: Hillsdale College enters the weekend 3-2 after taking the past weekend off from play. The Chargers bring in a three game winning streak after finishing off strong at the 2017 NFCA Leadoff Classic. Posting a 2016 record of 26-12 overall and 19-7 in the GLIAC, the Chargers were projected to finish sixth in the GLIAC. On the mound, freshman Dana Weidinger leads Hillsdale with a 2-1 record while recording a 13 to 2 strikeout-to-walk ratio.
