(LYNCHBURG, Vir., Feb. 5) – The McKendree University women's hockey team was swept over the weekend by No. 1 ranked Liberty University. The Bearcats fell 11-2 on Friday night and 8-0 on Saturday.
Friday night the Bearcats fell to a three-goal deficit after the first period. However, just 1:07 into the second period freshman forward
Domenika Reusche (San Jose, CA/Archbishop Mitty) netted the Bearcats first goal with assists coming from freshmen forwards
Keisha Johnson (Clearwater, BC) and
Alyssa Albee (Brookfield, WI/Brookfield Central). The Flames went on to add three more goals in the second period to hold a 6-1 lead heading into the third period. The third period saw the Bearcats second goal, coming from the stick of freshman defenseman
Nadia Studnicka (Chillicothe, IL/Home School). Freshmen forwards
Lara Wentz (Bismark, ND) and
Chase Hallemann (Ballwin, MO/Marquette) registered assists on Studnicka's goal. The Flames added five goals in the third period to take an 11-2 victory over the Bearcats.
Saturday afternoon the two teams played again, the Bearcats fired 17 shots on goal but could not solve the Flames goaltender after three periods. At the end of regulation McKendree fell to Liberty by a final score of 8-0.
The Bearcats hit the ice again on February 11 and 12 to faceoff against the University of Minnesota at Mariucci Arena in Minneapolis, Minn.
