(Flushing, NY. March 16) – The McKendree University women's lacrosse team dropped a 19-7 contest to New York Institute of Technology (NYIT) this evening.
The Bears jumped out to an early lead as Donovan Shannon tallied three of NYIT's first four goals. McKendree answered back as
Victoria Lelo (Auckland, New Zealand/Westlake) found the back of the net to move her season goal total to 29.
Madison Dauch (Lebanon, IL/Lebanon) provided an unassisted goal to draw the Bearcats within two goals at 4-2.
NYIT answered back with four more goals to take the lead to 8-2 with 8:46 remaining in the first period. Dauch would provide her second of three goals moments later to cut the lead to 8-3.
Emily Nelson (Deephaven, MN/Holy Family Catholic) found the back of the net at 7:01 in the first to bring McKendree back within four.
Late in the first, Dauch and Lelo added unassisted goals to bring the score to 9-6. The Bears would pull away in the second as they tallied seven unanswered goals.
Amy Porta (Ellisville, MO/Marquette) moves to 3-3 overall as she collected 11 saves in cage.
The Bearcats are back in action on Monday, March 20 as they welcome Colorado State University-Pueblo to Leemon Field at 4 p.m.
