Box Score 2 (Joplin, Mo., March 4) – The McKendree University softball team split day one of the Teri Mathis-Zenner Memorial Tournament with a 4-0 victory over Northeastern State University and a 5-3 loss to Missouri Southern State University.

Holly Magre (Festus, Mo./St. Pius X) tossed a gem on the mound in game one going the distance for the Bearcats. Magre recorded 12 strikeouts while only allowing two hits. McKendree scored two runs in the fourth on a
Rebecca Franke (Trenton, Ill./Wesclin) single and
Caitlyn Lowry (St. Louis, MO/Notre Dame ) double. In the fifth,
Jamie Doggendorf (Dittmer, Mo./Northwest) singled to start the inning. Doggendorf then stole second and third to eventually score on an error.
Rachel Hastings (Forsyth, Ill./Maroa-Forsyth ) would add another to cap the score at 4-0 as she scored on an error as well.
Magre improves to 7-2 on the 2017 campaign with 57 strikeouts on the season.
McKendree 3 Missouri Southern State 5
Missouri Southern jumped on the scoreboard early posting two runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Lions followed with a run in the second, third, and fourth. McKendree would answer in the top of the fourth as Hannah Branch doubled to right center to drive in
Jamie Doggendorf (Dittmer, Mo./Northwest). In the top of the sixth, McKendree would cut the lead to 5-2 as
Rebecca Franke (Trenton, Ill./Wesclin) walked with the bases loaded to drive in
Rachel Hastings (Forsyth, Ill./Maroa-Forsyth ). McKendree added one more in the top of the seventh as Branch reached on a fielding error scoring
Jill Norton (Foristell, MO/Francis Howell ).
Hannah Murphy (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt North ) went two innings giving up three earned runs while recording two strikeouts. Murphy moves to 0-3 on the season.
The Bearcats are back in action on Sunday at 10 a.m. as they face Northwest Missouri State University. The team wraps up the tournament with University of Nebraska at Kearney at noon.
