(Lebanon, Ill., April 1) – The McKendree University softball team split its Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) doubleheader against No. 10 University of Southern Indiana this afternoon dropping a 7-0 contest before posting a 4-3 victory.

With the split, McKendree moves to 19-14 overall 6-6 in GLVC play.

Game One: Southern Indiana 7 McKendree 0
The Screaming Eagles jumped out to an early lead driving in one run in the second inning on an Alex Logan double. Southern Indiana added five runs in the fifth inning on four hits and three Bearcat errors. The Eagles would add one more in the sixth inning to cap the seven-run lead.
Jenneifer Leonhardt (15-1) went the distance for Southern Indiana only surrendering three hits to the McKendree lineup.
Holly Magre (Festus, Mo./St. Pius X) (11-6) went four innings for McKendree striking out three. Hannah Murphy (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt North ) came in relief for Magre striking out two in three innings of work.

Game Two: McKendree 4 Southern Indiana 3
The Bearcat bats awoke in game two as McKendree took advantage of a four-run fourth inning to upset No. 10 Southern Indiana.
Jamie Doggendorf (Dittmer, Mo./Northwest) started the rally as she doubled to the gap moving Caitlyn Lowry (St. Louis, MO/Notre Dame ) to third who reached on an error. Dani Schoenbacher (Tamaroa, Ill./Pinckeyville) then walked to load the bases. Rachel Hastings (Forsyth, Ill./Maroa-Forsyth ) then sent a missile over the centerfield wall to give McKendree a 4-0 lead.
Southern Indiana battled back to post three runs on four hits in the fourth to cut the lead to 4-3.
Maci Ingram (Woodlawn, Ill./Nashville Community ) came in relief of Kylee Silliman (Fremont, IA/Oskaloosa ) (7-5) to pick up her second save of the 2017 campaign. Ingram struck out three batters in 3.1 innings of work.

The Bearcats are back in action on Tuesday, April 4 as they travel to University of Illinois Springfield for a conference doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 3 p.m.
