(NOTRE DAME, Ind., April 22) – The McKendree University women's water polo team opened up play at the Collegiate Water Polo Association (CWPA) Midwest Division Championships on Saturday defeating Illinois State University 20-1, and the University of Notre Dame 10-7. McKendree will play in the Division Championship on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. EST.
The Bearcats fell to the No. 17 ranked University of Indiana on Friday night at 7 p.m. by a final score of 21-1. Freshman attacker
Brianna Mullalley (Chula Vista, CA/Eastlake High School) netted the only goal of the game for McKendree.
McKendree took a 20-1 victory against Illinois State University on Saturday, with a game time of 12:20 p.m. EST. The Bearcats took a big lead after the first quarter, closing it out 11-0. Junior attacker
Sabrina Sherrin (San Jose, CA/West Valley Junior College) found the back of the net six times, Mullalley and freshman attacker
Victoria Jones (Lodi, CA/Tokay High School) each netted two goals, and freshman center
Kate Eckert (Bainbridge, WA/Bainbridge Island High School) scored once in the first quarter. The Bearcats continued to build their lead in the second quarter, netting three goals and allowing none to hold a 14-0 lead at half time. During the second quarter, Jones scored twice and freshman attacker
Jillian Hoffman (Prospect Heights, IL) found the back of the net once. The third quarter was all McKendree as well, with goals coming from Jones, Sherrin, freshman attacker
Valerie Sorondo (Orlando, FL/Lake Nona High School), along with two from Mullalley. After the third quarter, the Bearcats held a 19-0 lead. McKendree sealed the victory allowing just one goal in the fourth quarter and receiving one from Sorondo.
The Bearcats earned a second victory and a place in the CWPA Midwest Division Championship after defeating Notre Dame by a score of 10-7 on Saturday evening at 6:10 p.m. EST. McKendree took an early lead, scoring three in the first quarter while allowing just one goal. The Bearcats goals came from freshman center defender
Tiana Wilson ( Orange County, CA/Mt. San Antonio College), Jones, and Mullalley. McKendree was held off of the scoreboard in the second quarter as the Fighting Irish netted two to tie the game up 3-3 heading into half time. Mullalley and Sherrin each scored one goal in the third quarter, while Notre Dame scored once giving McKendree a 5-4 lead. The fourth quarter saw five goals from the Bearcats, with both Mullalley and Sherrin netting two and Hoffman netting one. McKendree took was able to hold off the Fighting Irish, taking the 10-7 victory and earning a spot in the Championship game.
McKendree was led in scoring by Sherrin who netted 10 goals on the day. Mullalley found the back of the net for eight goals, Jones scored six, Hoffman and Sorondo each had two, and Eckert scored one. Freshman goalie

The Bearcats are set to take on No. 1 seed Grand Valley State University in the CWPA Midwest Division Championship at 12:30 p.m. EST on Sunday afternoon.
