GLIAC Tournament Site
(Lebanon, Ill., April 30) – The McKendree University women's lacrosse team claimed its first Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) regular season co-championship with a 13-4 victory over Tiffin University.
The Bearcats came out firing on all cylinders as
Victoria Lelo (Auckland, New Zealand/Westlake) netted a goal 11 seconds into the contest. McKendree would then add six more goals to extend the lead to 7-0. The Dragons would not strike until 4:34 remaining in the first half.
Offensively, McKendree outshot Tiffin 33-24 putting 23 shots on cage.
Dana DiPasquale (St. Charles, MO/Barat Academy) paced the offensive tallying six points on four goals and two assists. Lelo added five goals for a game high and
Emily Nelson (Deephaven, MN/Holy Family Catholic) followed with three goals.
Paige Salthouse (St. Louis, MO/Ursuline Academy) contributed two assists and one goal to wrap up the offensive production.
Defensively,
Amy Porta (Ellisville, MO/Marquette) made 14 saves on 18 shots faced. Porta also collected a game high four groundballs. Lelo led the Bearcats with four draw controls and three caused turnovers.
The women's lacrosse team is back in action on Friday, May 5 at Grand Valley State University in Allendale, MI for the semifinal round of the GLIAC Tournament at a time to be determined.
