(LEBANON, Ill., Jan. 10)--The McKendree University women's basketball team returns to action this week with two games against Central Division opponents in the Great Lakes Valley Conference. The Bearcats will host Maryville University Thursday evening before making the short trip across the Mississippi River to visit the University of Missouri-St. Louis Saturday afternoon.
Both games will air live on the Bearcat Sports Network at
www.glvcsn.com/mckendree. Thursday's contest will have a live video stream from the Harry M. Statham Sports Center, while Saturday's game at UMSL will be an audio-only broadcast. Both games will begin with a 10-minute pre-game show.
Last weekend, McKendree jumped back into GLVC play by splitting one of two games. After an 83-77 loss last Thursday at the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, the Bearcats bounced back with a 79-72 win at home last Saturday against the University of Illinois Springfield. McKendree built a 20-point lead in the third quarter but held off a late charge from the Prairie Stars to earn their first GLVC triumph of the year. The Bearcats enter this week's play with an overall record of 5-6 to go along with a 1-3 mark in conference action.
McKendree continues to utilize a balanced scoring attack in 2017-18 as seven players are averaging between 11.9 and 6.8 points per game. Jordan Heberg leads the way at 11.9 PPG, while Madison Hart is next at 9.3 PPG. Jordan Morton (pictured), who is posting 6.8 PPG, leads the Bearcats in rebounding at seven per contest. Morton is currently eighth in the GLVC in rebounding. She also tops the team in field goal percentage, hitting 51.8 percent of her tries from the floor.
Beginning with Thursday's game against Maryville, McKendree will play four of its next six games within the friendly confines of the Statham Center. After Saturday's match-up at UMSL, the Bearcats will visit UIS on Monday evening before returning home to host Quincy University (Jan. 18) William Jewell College (Jan. 25) and the University of Southern Indiana (Jan. 27).
