(LEBANON, Ill., Jan. 26) – The McKendree University women's hockey team fell 3-2 to No. 2 Adrian College in overtime on Friday night.
The Bearcats fall to 9-7-1 on the season with the loss. The teams went scoreless through the first period, but Adrian College struck first just 3:37 into the second period to take a 1-0 lead. The Bulldogs held the 1-0 lead through the end of the second period.
Adrian added to its lead just 43 seconds into the third period, taking a two goal advantage. Halfway through the third period the Bearcats answered when sophomore defenseman Jana Garrow lit the lamp to draw McKendree within one. Sophomore forward Allison Sauvola tied the game at 2-2 with her goal at the 7:51 mark of the third period, with assists coming from Garrow and sophomore defenseman Nadia Studnicka. The two teams headed to overtime in dramatic fashion, however the Bulldogs were able to score to defeat the Bearcats 3-2.
Sophomore goaltender Jazmin Malinowski got the start between the pipes on Friday night, turning aside 45 of 48 shots for a save percentage of 0.938. Garrow led the Bearcats in scoring, registering two points on the night including a goal and an assist.
The two teams battle it out again on Saturday afternoon with the teams taking the ice at 2 p.m. for warmups at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex.
