(O'Fallon, Ill., Oct. 6) – The McKendree University women's hockey team came out hot in a 5-0 victory to complete the sweep of Midland University.
Dakota Peterson (Battleford, Saskatchewan, Canada) got the Bearcats on the board quickly as she lit the lamp just a minute into the game with the help from
Natalia Taylor (Sooke, BC, Canada/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame) and
Keisha Johnson (Clearwater, BC, Canada).
Nadia Studnicka (Chillicothe, IL/Home School) scored on a snipe from the blue line after she was set up by
Paris Suzuki (Covina, CA/Covina High School) and
Domenika Reusche (San Jose, CA/Archbishop Mitty). After no scoring in the second period, McKendree held a 3-0 heading to the final period.
Taylor Clarke (Victoria, BC, Canada/Belmont Secondary) scored her first collegiate goal to extend the lead in the third period off assists from Suzuki and
Jackie Leone (Lake Country, BC, Canada/Kelowna Secondary School). Suzuki broke the game wide open as she gave the Bearcats a 4-0 lead with the help of Leone and
Kayla Waldbillig (West Kelowna, BC, Canada/Mount Boucherie Secondary School). Peterson scored a power play goal to finish off the scoring for the Bearcats as they went on to win 5-0
McKendree outshot the Warriors 35-12 and
Naomi Leasck (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh High School) recorded her first collegiate shut out.
The Women's hockey team will play host to University of Colorado on Sunday afternoon at 2:15p.m. at the McKendree Metro Rec Plex.
