(O'Fallon, Ill., Oct. 5) – The McKendree University women's hockey team came out victorious 4-3 against Midland after scoring the game winner in overtime on Friday night.
McKendree got off to a hot start when they put up three goals in the first period. Sophomore
Callie Hoadley (Hanover, MA/Hanover High School) got the scoring started for the Bearcats as she tied the game at one apiece when she buried one past the Midland goaltender with the help of freshman
Kayla Waldbillig (West Kelowna, BC, Canada/Mount Boucherie Secondary School) and junior
Jana Garrow (Wexford, PA/North Allegheny). Sophomore
Dakota Peterson (Battleford, Saskatchewan, Canada) gave the Bearcats the lead with assists from junior
Keisha Johnson (Clearwater, BC, Canada) and Garrow. Under a minute later, Hoadley continued her hot stretch as she scored her second goal of the game. McKendree would lead 3-1 after the first period.
Midland would score a goal in second and third period to tie the game at three and send the game into overtime. Three on three hockey did not last long as sophomore
Laurynn Davey (Owens Cross Roads, AL/Huntsville High School) ended the game with a pass from Johnson just a minute into halftime. The Bearcats won by the score of 4-3.
Women's Hockey returns to the rink on Saturday at 2:00p.m. as they look to finish off the sweep of Midland University at home.
