(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 13)--The McKendree University women's basketball team will make its 2018-19 home debut on Wednesday at 6 p.m., when Upper Iowa University visits the Statham Center in non-conference play. Tip-off is set for 6 p.m. Wednesday's contest will air live on the Bearcat Sports Network at
www.glvcsn.com/mckendree, beginning with the pre-game show at 5:50 p.m.
The Bearcats split a pair of games over the weekend in Indiana to open the regular season. McKendree battled past host Purdue University Northwest on Friday in the James B. Dworkin Tip-Off Classic, 75-69, before being edged by Tiffin University in the closing seconds on Saturday, 76-74. Sydney Diekoff led the way for McKendree, averaging 19 points while pulling down 6.5 rebounds in the two contests. Diekhoff regsitered career-high totals of 27 points and 10 rebounds in the Bearcats' overtime win against Purdue Northwest.
Jordan Heberg (Romeoville, IL/Plainfield North) and
Megan Jensen (Union, MO/Saint Francis Borgia Regional) each connected for 13 PPG in Indiana, while
Jordan Morton (Olathe, Kan./Olathe South) added 10.5 points and a team-leading 8.5 rebounds for the weekend.
McKendree crashed the boards extremely well Friday and Saturday, outrebounding its two opponents by an average of 8.5 RPG. The Bearcats also shared the basketball against Purdue Northwest and Tiffin, dishing out 40 assists overall. McKendree had assists on at least two-thirds of its baskets during each game, including 21 assists on 26 made shots in the Tiffin outing.Â
Wednesday's game with Upper Iowa will open up a two-game home stand this week for McKendree. The Bearcats will also entertain Davenport University Saturday at 1 p.m. in non-conference action. McKendree will then play three straight contests on the road before returning home on Dec. 5 to face Missouri Baptist University.
ABOUT UPPER IOWA
The Peacocks brings an 0-2 overall record to Lebanon. Upper Iowa was defeated by both Missouri Western State University and Fort Hays State University last weekend at the MIAA/NSICÂ Tip-Off held in Hays, Kan. Casey Miles was the lone Peacock to average in double figures for the weekend as she posted 10.5 PPG. Miles made 6-of-7 shots from the floor and 8-of-10 attempts from the free throw line. Bekka Pierson registered 9.5 points and seven rebounds per game for Upper Iowa.Â
McKendree and Upper Iowa played last season on Nov. 17, 2017 at the Quincy University Tip-Off Classic. The Peacocks held off a late rally by the Bearcats to post a 70-63 win.
