(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 21)--The McKendree University women's basketball team will be in search of its third consecutive victory Wednesday evening when it heads to Jefferson City, Mo., to face Lincoln University. Tip-off for the non-conference game is slated for 6 p.m.
McKendree battled its way to a 61-54 victory Saturday afternoon against Davenport University to improve to 3-1 on the season.
Sydney Diekhoff (Pekin, IL/Pekin Community) paced the Bearcats with 19 points while
Jordan Heberg (Romeoville, IL/Plainfield North) added 17 points.
Jordan Morton (Olathe, Kan./Olathe South) hauled in a team-leading eight rebounds for McKendree, which held a 40-31 edge on the boards against the Panthers.
Through its first four games, McKendree is averaging 71 points per game while allowing just 61.5 PPG. The Bearcats have forced 80 turnovers during that span, producing 52 steals in the process. Diekhoff (16.8 PPG) and Heberg (13.8 PPG) are the lone McKendree players averaging in double figures in the scoring column. Morton leads the Bearcats with 8.3 rebounds per outing.
Following the trip to Lincoln, McKendree will have a week to prepare for its Great Lakes Valley Conference opener on Thursday, Nov. 29 at the University of Missouri-St. Louis. The Bearcats will also visit Maryville University on Saturday, Dec. 1.
ABOUT LINCOLN
The Blue Tigers are undefeated entering Wednesday's game at 3-0. Lincoln is coming off a 79-34 rout of Stephens College last Tuesday, Nov. 13. Just seven players have seen action so far this season for the Blue Tigers, with three averaging better than 10 PPG. Zoi Thompson leads the way at 20.7 PPG, while Zhanesha Dickerson (12.7 PPG) and Tempary Gunter (12.3 PPG) are also scoring in double figures for Lincoln. Dickerson is the Blue Tigers' leading rebounder at 9.7 RPG. Thompson has also contributed 10 steals and 16 assists through the first three games for Lincoln.
McKendree and Lincoln have not played since Dec. 30, 2016, when the Bearcats registered a 78-66 victory over the Blue Tigers at the Statham Center.
Jordan Heberg (Romeoville, IL/Plainfield North) led four McKendree players scoring in double figures with 17 points.
