(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 28)--The McKendree University women's basketball team returns to action following the Thanksgiving break by kicking off its Great Lakes Valley Conference schedule with two games in St. Louis. The Bearcats will first visit the University of Missouri-St. Louis Thursday evening before taking on Maryville University Saturday afternoon.
McKendree enters the week with an overall record of 3-2. The Bearcats had a two-game win streak snapped last Wednesday with a 72-70 loss at Lincoln University. McKendree rallied from a six-point deficit in the closing minutes only to see the Blue Tigers win on a putback at the buzzer.
Shayli Florine (Galesburg, IL/Galesburg) dropped in a career-high 22 points to lead the way for the Bearcats while
Sydney Diekhoff (Pekin, IL/Pekin Community) added 19 points and five assists in the contest.
Jordan Morton (Olathe, Kan./Olathe South) grabbed nine rebounds to lead McKendree on the glass.
Diekhoff is the Bearcats' leading scorer this season at 17.2 PPG, and currently ranks fourth in the GLVC in scoring.
Jordan Heberg (Romeoville, IL/Plainfield North) is the only other McKendree player averaging in double figures at 11.6 PPG. Morton is seventh in the league in rebounding at 8.4 RPG.
Callie Pohlman (Appleton, WI/Appleton North) is tied for sixth in the conference in assists per game at 4.0 APG, while
Megan Jensen (Union, MO/Saint Francis Borgia Regional) sits seventh in the GLVC in field goal percentage, hitting 56.7 percent of her attempts from the floor. Three Bearcats have at least 10 steals so far in 2018-19, including Pohlman and
Jenna Krause (Seymour, WI/Seymour), who share the team lead with 11.
Following the Bearcats' two-game road swing through St. Louis, the Bearcats will step back into non-conference play for their next five games, beginning with a home contest next Wednesday, Dec. 5, against Missouri Baptist University at 5:30 p.m.

After opening up the 2018-19 season with three consecutive losses, the Tritons have rebounded to win their last three games to bring a 3-3 mark into Thursday's contest against McKendree. The latest triumph for Missouri-St. Louis came in a 76-58 win at home over Kentucky State University last Wednesday, Nov. 21. Arielle Jackson poured in 23 points and handed out seven assists to lead the Tritons.
Jackson leads a balanced attack for Missouri-St. Louis by averaging 14.7 PPG. Alex LaPorta is next at 11.8 PPG, while Kaitlyn Henning is also averaging in double figures in the scoring column at 10.8 PPG. LaPorta is third in the GLVC in rebounding at 9.3 RPG and is fifth in steals at 2.5 SPG. Jackson has connected on neaerly 41 percent of her three-point field goal tries and also leads UMSL with 24 assists. Jackson is tied with Pohlman for sixth in the GLVC in assists per game at 4.0.
UMSL swept a two-game series with McKendree during the 2017-18 season. The Tritons opened with a 63-55, come-from-behind win over the Bearcats on Jan. 13, 2018 in St. Louis before notching a 75-55 win to complete the sweep on Feb. 15, 2018 in Lebanon.
ABOUT MARYVILLE
The Saints are 3-2 overall heading into their Thursday night home contest against the University of Illinois Springfield. Marvyille registered a 62-58 win at Washburn University Saturday afternoon in Topeka, Kan., as Mary Barton was the only Saints' player to score in double figures with 18 points.
Kayla Steward is Maryville's leading scorer this season at 13 PPG, while Barton is close behind at 11.4 PPG. The duo also lead the Saints in assists, with Steward dishing out 19 assists to Barton's 17. Stephanie Sherwood is pulling down a team-leading 7.4 RPG, which is good for ninth in the conference. Hunter Stidham is sixth in the GLVC in field goal percentage, hitting 59.1 percent of her tries from the field.
McKendree registered a season sweep of Maryville last season. The Bearcats battled to a 63-57 victory in the first meeting on Jan. 13, 2018 at the Statham Center before adding a 67-56 win on Feb. 17, 2018 in St. Louis.
