(Quincy, Ill., March 20) -- McKendree men's volleyball picked up its third straight victory, defeating the Quincy University Hawks (12-13, 0-9 MIVA) for the second time this season. The sweep on the road improves the Bearcats overall record to 9-10 on the year, and 5-5 in Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association play.
Senior outside hitter Nolan Rueter led the Bearcats on offense, putting down 12 kills while hitting .632 on the evening. Junior libero Zach Thompson had a team-high nine digs, while red-shirt senior middle
Brendan Schmidt (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt West) recorded four blocks and five kills.
Facing three set points in the first, the Bearcats rattled off five in row to take the 1-0 lead in the match, finishing it off with a kill from Rueter. McKendree built a five-point advantage in the second at 16-11 and held off a late charge from Quincy to take the set 25-22. The Bearcats came out strong in the third set, scoring nine of the first ten points on their way to the sweep.
The Bearcats will return home this week for two non-conference matches against the Princeton University Tigers on Thursday and Friday.
