(Lebanon, Ill., March 31) -- McKendree men's volleyball honored six seniors on Saturday night, falling to #6 Loyola Chicago in a four set battle. The Bearcats drop to 11-12 overall and 5-6 in the Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association with the setback, while the Ramblers earned their 20th victory of the 2018 season.
McKendree scored the first six points of the first, but Loyola stormed back to take the set in extra play by a score of 32-30. The Ramblers extended their advantage in the second set, prevailing 25-21. The Bearcats came from behind in the third set to force a fourth, but Loyola finished of the match, winning that set in convincing fashion 25-11.
Senior Nolan Rueter led McKendree with 15 kills and nine digs on the night, while setter Pasquale Fiduccia recorded 38 assists. Red-shirt senior middle
Brendan Schmidt (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt West) put down a match-high six total blocks at the net.
The Bearcats will close out regular season play next weekend as they travel to Ball State and Fort Wayne for a pair of MIVA road contests.
