(Lebanon, Ill., March 6) – The McKendree University softball team is set to host No. 24 Saginaw Valley State University Wednesday and Thursday this week for a two day doubleheader with first pitch slated for 3 p.m. both days.
The Bearcats, 10-3 Overall
McKendree enters this week's games behind the bats of
Rebecca Franke (Trenton, Ill./Wesclin) (.472),
Caitlyn Lowry (St. Louis, MO/Notre Dame) (.450), and
Miranda Gajewski (Kronenwetter, WI/D.C. Everest) (.378) who lead the team in a variety of categories. Lowry has batted in 13 runs for the Bearcats.
Brooke Gajewski (Kronenwetter, Wis./D.C. Everest) adds 11, while Franke and M. Gajewski each add eight.
On the mound, M. Gajewski has been perfect posting a 6-0 record with a 1.30 ERA.
Maci Ingram (Woodlawn, Ill./Nashville Community) has been lights out fulling a closer role for the team collecting three saves with a .79 ERA in nine appearances.
The Cardinals, 3-3 Overall
Saginaw Valley is led offensively by Maddy Burgess (.429) and Meredith Rousse (.391) who each have nine hits two going for extra bases. Defensively, Anna Conard is 2-0 in three starts posting a 3.27 ERA. Earlier this season the Cardinals beat University of Southern Indiana who is currently ranked 13 in the latest national rankings. Saginaw Valley is coming off getting swept by Truman State this past Sunday 5-4 in nine innings and 4-3.
The Bearcats continue the week of action on Sunday at the University of Missouri-St. Louis for a Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for Noon.
