50-50: Salthouse Makes McKendree History in 23-10 Victory at Davenport

(GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., April 20)—Senior attacker Paige Salthouse (St. Louis, MO/Ursuline Academy) made some McKendree University women's lacrosse history late in Friday's 23-10 Bearcat victory at Davenport University.

Salthouse scored a team-high six goals for the Bearcats, giving her 50 on the season. She becomes the first player in McKendree women's lacrosse history to score at least 50 goals twice during a career. Salthouse -- who netted 64 goals during her sophomore campaign in 2016 -- scored with just over six minutes remaining on Friday to etch her name in the Bearcats' record book. She added two assists in Friday's win for McKendree.

McKendree improves to 6-9 overall and is now 5-5 in Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference play. The Bearcats will have a week off before heading to Concordia University-St. Paul for a GLIAC contest on April 27 at 6 p.m.

Senior attacker Dana DiPasquale (St. Charles, MO/Barat Academy) scored five goals and added four assists for a team-high nine points in the win, while junior attacker Emily Nelson (Deephaven, MN/Holy Family Catholic) added five goals and collected a match-high eight draw controls.

McKendree scored early and often in Friday's contest, building a 12-1 lead with just over 11 minutes left in the first half. Nelson scored four times during the Bearcats' early outburst, while Salthouse added three goals and DiPasquale chipped in with a pair of tallies. Davenport (3-10, 1-8 GLIAC) chipped away at the deficit and pulled within 13-5 at the intermission.

The Panthers eventually rallied as close as 13-7 in the early stages of the second half before McKendree put the contest away for good. DiPasquale scored twice to ignite a run of four unanswered goals to stretch the Bearcats' advantage to 17-7 with a little more than 20 minutes on the clock. McKendree then shut down Davenport over the final 13 minutes of play, reeling off the final five goals of the night, including Salthouse's history tally.

McKendree was able to complete the season sweep of Davenport with Friday's win. The Bearcats defeated the Panthers 22-10 back on March 23 at Leemon Field.
