(LEBANON, Ill., April 8) – The McKendree University women's water polo team defeated Monmouth College 12-2 on senior day, Sunday morning.
 
McKendree improves to 8-12 overall on the season with Sunday's victory. The Bearcats went 1-2 at home on the weekend.
 
Senior goalie Gabby Madewell shined on senior day allowing just two goals while registering 14 saves. The Bearcats offense was firing on all cylinders with four goals in the first quarter, including two from senior attacker Sabrina Sherrin. Sophomore attacker Brianna Mullalley and freshman attacker Emily Westlove each netted one goal to give McKendree a 4-0 lead at the close of the first quarter.
 
The Bearcats continued to pour on the offense netting five goals in the second quarter, with Sherrin and Westlove each scoring twice, and sophomore utility player Victoria Jones scoring once. McKendree continued to hold Monmouth off the scoreboard to grab the 9-0 lead heading into halftime.
 
The third quarter was all McKendree as well, with Mullalley and sophomore defender Tiana Wilson finding the back of the net to increase the McKendree lead to 11. The Fighting Scots were able to break through in the fourth quarter on a five-meter penalty shot, but the Bearcats answered on a goal by Jones. The Fighting Scots were able to score one more in the final minute of the game, but McKendree grabbed the 12-2 victory on senior day.
 
Madewell turned in her best performance of the season on Sunday stopping 14 shots on goal. Sherrin led the McKendree offense on senior day with four goals of her own. The Bearcats are back in action at Gannon University on April 14 for two Western Water Polo Association (WWPA) matchups against Gannon and Mercyhurst.
