Bearcats Go On a Twelve-Point Run In the Fourth Set to Defeat Missouri S&T, 3-1

(Lebanon, Ill., Sept. 29) – The McKendree University women's volleyball team took down the Miners of Missouri S&T, 3-1 after going on a twelve-point run in set four. The Bearcats advance to 9-8 overall on the season and 5-3 in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play.

McKendree defeated the Miners in set one and two, 25-19. The Bearcats' offense faltered a bit in the third set loss to Missouri S&T, 25-10. There was no competition in the third set as the Bearcats took off on a twelve-point run to finish off the Miners, 25-12. The run began off a kill from freshman right side McKenna Ross (Anthem, AZ/Boulder Creek) and ended on a kill from Ross as well to take the match. It also included back-to-back blocks from freshman middle blocker Hope Gramly (Prosper, TX/Prosper) and junior middle blocker Megan Marks (Colgate, WI/Germantown).

The offense was powered by Gramly's 12 kills on the match. Junior outside hitter Kelly Voss (St. Rose, IL/Mater Dei) was also a key player in the Bearcats' offense with 10 kills. Marks, with six kills, and senior setter Morgan Melchert (Mt. Vernon, IA/Mt. Vernon), with five kills, had noteable performances for McKendree's offense.

At the net for the Bearcats' defense was Marks and Gramly. Marks recorded seven total blocks for McKendree and Gramly put up six. As a team the Bearcats managed 20 total blocks on the afternoon. The back line was held together by junior libero Alissa Zeitelhack's (Overland Park, KS/Blue Valley West) 22 digs and sophomore defensive specialist Alex Tinnin's (Festus, MO/Festus) 12.

The Bearcats will return to action on Tuesday Oct. 2 against the University of Missouri-St. Louis in St. Louis, Mo., at 7 p.m. They will return home the following weekend on Saturday Oct. 6 for the dig pink match against University of Illinois Springfield at 5 p.m.
