(LEBANON, Ill., Jan. 9)--The McKendree University women's basketball team will open its longest home stand of the 2018-19 season -- four games -- by hosting a pair of Great Lakes Valley Conference foes this week at the Statham Center. The Bearcats will meet Maryville University Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. before the University of Missouri-St. Louis wraps up the week with a Saturday contest at 1 p.m. Both games will air live on the Bearcat Sports Network at
www.glvcsn.com/mckendree, with the pre-game show beginning 10 minutes before tip-off.
The games on Thursday and Saturday will mark the first home GLVC contests of the year for McKendree, which brings an 8-4 overall record and a 2-1 league mark into the week. The Bearcats dropped their first GLVC game of the season on Saturday at the University of Illinois Springfield, 84-73.
Sydney Diekhoff (Pekin, IL/Pekin Community) posted 24 points to lead the way for McKendree, while
Megan Jensen (Union, MO/Saint Francis Borgia Regional) added 15 points.
Jordan Heberg (Romeoville, IL/Plainfield North) finished with 12 points as
Jordan Morton (Olathe, Kan./Olathe South) notched a double-double with 10 points and a game-high 13 rebounds to go along with four steals for the Bearcats.
McKendree will look to remain perfect at home this season. The Bearcats have won all four games played at the Statham Center so far in 2018-19 and has limited its opponents to an average of 53.3 points per game in those contests. McKendree's last home game was a 69-64 triumph over Culver-Stockton College on Dec. 19.
Following the games against Maryville and UMSL, McKendree will continue its home stand next week with No. 3-ranked Drury University next Thursday, Jan. 17 before closing out the run on Saturday, Jan. 19 against Missouri S&T.
ABOUT MARYVILLE
The Saints are 8-5 overall and 2-2 in GLVC play. Maryville battled its way to a 92-81 victory last Saturday at home against Bellarmine University. The Saints have won three of their previous four games heading into Thursday night's meeting with McKendree.
Three players are averaging in double figures in Maryville's balanced offensive attack. Mary Barton leads the trio at 13.2 PPG. Barton also paces the Saints with 60 assists and a free throw percentage of .857. Kayla Steward is next at 12 PPG, while Stephanie Sherwood rounds out the group at 11.1 PPG. Sherwood also leads the team in rebounding at 7.2 RPG.
McKendree won the first meeting between the two teams this season, 68-47, back on Dec. 1 in St. Louis. The Bearcats rolled to a 39-21 lead at the half and never looked back on its way to the victory.
Jordan Heberg (Romeoville, IL/Plainfield North) posted a team-best 15 points as
Sydney Diekhoff (Pekin, IL/Pekin Community) was right behind with 14 points.
Jenna Krause (Seymour, WI/Seymour) came off the bench to net a season-best 11 points.
Megan Jensen (Union, MO/Saint Francis Borgia Regional) and
Jordan Morton (Olathe, Kan./Olathe South) shared team-high rebounding honors with eight apiece. Erin Lenahan dropped in a game-high 19 points in a reserve role to lead Maryville.
ABOUT MISSOURI-ST. LOUIS
The Tritons are 7-6 this season with a 1-3 ledger in GLVC play entering their Thursday game at Illinois Springfield. UMSL was edged twice at home last week by Bellarmine University (54-50 on Jan. 3) and the University of Southern Indiana (62-60 on Jan. 5).
Arielle Jackson is the Tritons' leading scorer at 16.5 PPG and has made a team-high 31 three-point field goals. Jackson has also dished out 40 assists, which tops all UMSL players. Alex LaPorta is the only other UMSL player averaging in double figures at 11.8 PPG. LaPorta is also the GLVC's leading rebounder at 10.8 RPG. Kaitlynn Henning, who is scoring 9.3 PPG, has collected a team-leading 28 steals for the Tritons.
McKendree began its GLVC slate back on Nov. 29 with a 72-55 victory at UMSL.

Jordan Heberg (Romeoville, IL/Plainfield North) also reached double figures in the scoring column with 12 points. Arielle Jackson scored 14 points to lead UMSL as Alex LaPorta netted a double-double with 13 points and 17 rebounds.
