(LEBANON, Ill., Oct. 20) – The McKendree women's soccer team dominated the visiting Prairie Stars of Illinois Springfield 4-1 this Sunday afternoon on Leemon Field. After the win, the Bearcats are now 11-2-1 overall and 9-1-1 in Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) play.
Though the Bearcats ended the 90 minutes as the clear victors, it was the Prairie Stars who were on the board first, scoring in the 40
th minute of play after some highly contested play from both sides. It looked as if McKendree would head into the half trailing by one, senior midfielder
Madyson Mossman (St. Louis, MO/Ursuline Academy) would hit the equalizer in the 44
th minute of play. The Bearcats would ride that momentum for the remainder to the match with junior forward
Morgan Hollenbeck (Eureka, MO/Eureka High School) notching one off an
Emma Knoebel (Maryville, IL/Collinsville High School) assist. Mossman would score once more in the 72
nd minute courtesy of a Knoebel assist, though it would be
Emma Knoebel (Maryville, IL/Collinsville High School) who earned the final goal of the game, scoring on a 78
th minute penalty kick. Senior goalkeeper
Zoe Brochu (Ajax, Ontario, Canada/Pickering High School) made five saves in the victory.
McKendree will be back in action this Friday, October 25 when they travel to Quincy, IL to take on fellow GLVC contender Quincy University at 5 p.m.
