Albee, Davis, Wentz Score Twice in Women’s Hockey Win Over Davenport

(GRAND RAPIDS, Mich., Oct. 5) – The McKendree University women's hockey team opened up a two game series on the road with Davenport. Seniors Alyssa Albee (Brookfield, WI/Brookfield Central), Lara Wentz (Bismark, ND/), and freshman Juliana Davis (Onanole, Manitoba, Canada) scored twice in the 10-0 shutout victory over Davenport.
 
The win marks McKendree's first of the season, improving to 1-2 overall. The Bearcats will look for a sweep on Sunday morning, with a start time listed at 10:30am ET.
 
The Bearcats jumped on Davenport early and often, scoring three goals in the opening period. Senior Lara Wentz (Bismark, ND/) scored shortly after puck drop to give McKendree an early lead. Fellow senior Tia Kay (Willard, UT/Box Elder) and freshman Juliana Davis (Onanole, Manitoba, Canada) scored the other two goals to give the Bearcats a 3-0 heading into the first intermission.
 
Wentz wasted no time getting her second goal of the four minutes into the second period. On the powerplay, senior Alyssa Albee (Brookfield, WI/Brookfield Central) found the back of the next to extend the lead to four. Davis followed suit, netting her second goal of the contest. After scoring three goals in the middle period, McKendree held a 6-0 lead.
 
McKendree added four insurance goals in the final period. Sophomore Jackie Leone (Lake Country, BC, Canada/Kelowna Secondary School) connected with her first goal of the season to open the scoring in the third period. Senior Delayne Ivanowski (Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood) followed up with a goal just a minute later to push the lead. The Bearcats found the back of the net once again when junior Charleigh Wagner (Murrysville, PA/Franklin Regional Senior HS) scored three minutes later. To close the game, Albee scored her second goal of the game to seal a 10-0 victory over the host, Davenport.
 
Sophomore netminder Naomi Leasck (St. Louis, MO/Lindbergh High School) was a perfect 11/11 on saves in the victory.
