(O'FALLON, Ill., Nov. 17) – The McKendree University women's hockey team completed the sweep of visiting Grand Valley State University on Sunday afternoon with a dominating 5-1 win. The Bearcats carried over their momentum from Saturday's win, outshooting the Lakers 47-9.
The Bearcats advance to 8-5 overall on the season.
Senior
Alyssa Albee (Brookfield, WI/Brookfield Central) put McKendree ahead early when senior
Allison Sauvola (Eagle River, WI/Northland Pines) found Albee wide open in front of the net. Freshman
Juliana Davis (Onanole, Manitoba, Canada) was also credited with an assist. Despite putting up 17 shots, the Bearcats only found the back of the net once in the opening period, taking a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
The Bearcats dominated on both ends in the middle period, scoring three goals and allowing a single shot from Grand Valley. Junior
Laurynn Davey (Owens Cross Roads, AL/Huntsville High School) knocked in a loose puck in the crease to increase the lead to two. Freshman
Quinn Atchison (Victoria, BC, Canada/Belmont Seconday School) and Davis helped create the opportunity, with Davis receiving her second assist. Four minutes later, senior
Jana Garrow (Wexford, PA/North Allegheny) extended the Bearcat lead, burying a rebound off a shot from senior
Delayne Ivanowski (Kirkwood, MO/Kirkwood). Junior
Callie Hoadley (Hanover, MA/Hanover High School) added to the lead, tapping in a puck that was in the crease. Albee and senior
Lara Wentz (Bismark, ND/) were credited with the assists.
Through two periods, the McKendree defense only allowed three total shots and one in the second period.
The Lakers broke the shutout five minutes into the final period to cut the lead to 4-1. Freshman
Madison Puffalt (Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, Canada/Athol Murray College of Notre Dame) recorded her first career goal with two minutes remaining to push the lead back to four and seal a 5-1 victory for McKendree, completing the sweep of Grand Valley State University. Davey and Hoadley were given assists on the final goal.

Brittnee Kenny (Richmond, Ontario, Canada/South Carleton High School) made 8/9 saves in the win.
The women's hockey team will be back at the rink next weekend, Nov. 23-24 when they head to Midland University for two games against the Warriors.
