(LEBANON, Ill., Nov. 27)—The McKendree University women's basketball team hits the basketball court following a 12-day layoff this weekend with two games at the Fairfield Inn Classic hosted by Missouri Western State University. The Bearcats will take on host Missouri Western State Friday night at 7:30 p.m. before finishing up their trip with a meeting against Northwest Missouri State University on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
The Bearcats will take a perfect 4-0 record on the road this weekend. McKendree's last game came on Nov. 17 in Lebanon, when the team opened the home portion of its 2019-20 schedule with a 63-61 win over Missouri Southern State University.
Jordan Heberg (Romeoville, IL/Plainfield North) dropped in 22 points while
Jenna Krause (Seymour, WI/Seymour) helped out with 16 points and three steals against the Lions.
Madison Hart (Oak Creek, WI/Oak Creek) pulled down a team-best 14 rebounds, and
Brianna Johnson (Lodi, WI/Beaver Dam) registered six assists in the winning effort.
Heberg leads McKendree in scoring at 16.5 PPG. She is also shooting 82.6 percent from the free throw line, hitting 19-of-23 attempts this season. Krause is the only other Bearcat scoring in double digits at 13.5 PPG. Hart, who is third in scoring at 9.5 PPG, leads McKendree on the boards at 11.8 RPG. Hart is tied for second among all players in the Great Lakes Valley Conference in rebounding.
In team statistics, McKendree has proven so far to be one of the stingiest teams in the league. The Bearcats are third in the GLVC in scoring defense at 60 PPG, while they are third in field goal defense at 35.8 percent and second in three-point field goal defense at just 22 percent. McKendree is also rebounding, pulling down 42 per contest.
Following the holiday weekend trip to St. Joseph, Mo., McKendree will return to the Harry M. Statham Sports Center to begin GLVC play Tuesday against the University of Southern Indiana.
ABOUT MISSOURI WESTERN STATE
The Griffons bring a 3-1 overall record into the weekend classic. After dropping its season opener, Missouri Western State has reeled off three straight victories, including a 100-51 triumph over the College of Saint Mary (Neb.) in its last outing on Nov. 17.
Chris Wilson leads Missouri Western State in scoring at 20.5 PPG and rebounding at 11.3 RPG. In addition, Wilson is shooting 59.3 percent from the field. Corbyn Cunningham is next in both columns as 16 PPG and nine RPG. Katrina Roenfeldt is the other Griffon scoring in double figures at 13 PPG. Roenfeldt and Kylee Williams share the team lead with 11 assists each, while Roenfeldt has also collected 10 steals.
Friday's game will mark the first meeting in the Bearcats' NCAA Division II era against Missouri Western State.

The Bearcats are 3-2 entering the weekend and will take on Florida Southern College on Friday at the Fairfield Inn Classic. Northwest Missouri State won its last regular-season outing at Nov. 21 with a 73-40 triumph at home over Nebraska Wesleyan. The Bearcats' last game action came on Sunday with a 78-53 exhibition loss at the University of Northern Iowa.
Kendey Eaton is the leading scorer through five games for Northwest Missouri State at 16.4 PPG. She is also 16-of-18 from the free throw line, connecting on 88.9 percent of her tries from the stripe. Jaelyn Haggard also scores in double figures for Northwest Missouri State at 11.8 PPG. Erika Schlosser has handed out a team-leading 19 assists.
The squads have met in each of the last two seasons, with McKendree winning both contests. McKendree registered a 72-65 win in Lebanon on Dec. 18, 2017, before edging past Northwest Missouri 59-55 on Dec. 16, 2018 in Maryville, Mo.
