(BLOOMINGTON, Ind., Nov. 3)—The McKendree University women's basketball team wrapped up its pre-season exhibition slate Sunday afternoon with a 109-43 loss at Indiana University.
The host Hoosiers came out firing from the opening tip, shooting 50 percent or better in each of the four quarters in collecting the victory. McKendree will officially begin its 2019-20 season Friday afternoon at the GLVC/GLIAC Crossover Challenge against Purdue University Northwest in Springfield, Ill. The University of Illinois at Springfield will serve as the host for the four-team, two-day event. Friday's tip-off is slated for 12 noon.
Senior guard
Jordan Heberg (Romeoville, IL/Plainfield North) was the lone McKendree player scoring in double figures for McKendree with 10 points. Sophomore guard
Jenna Krause (Seymour, WI/Seymour) chipped in with nine points, while senior forward
Brianna Johnson (Lodi, WI/Beaver Dam) and freshman guard
Kaelyn Froebe (Lincoln, IL/Lincoln) each connected for seven points. Johnson also pulled down a team-leading six rebounds for McKendree.
Indiana opened the contest by scoring the first 11 points and never looked back, building leads of 27-6 after the first quarter and 58-18 at the half. For the contest, the Hoosiers shot 56 percent from the field (42-of-75) and were 11-of-23 from beyond the arc (47.8 percent). A total of 10 different players found the scoring column for Indiana, with seven reaching double figures.
In addition to Friday's game with Purdue University Northwest, McKendree will face Tiffin University on Saturday in the final day of action at the GLVC/GLIAC Crossover Challenge. The Bearcats' first home contest will be on Sunday, Nov. 17 against Missouri Southern State University at 3 p.m.
