Kohrmann Records Career High 31 Points in Non-Conference Loss at Union Saturday

(JACKSON, Tenn., - Dec. 7) – The McKendree University men's basketball team fell to Union University in Jackson, Tenn., Saturday, 80-69. The Bearcats are now 4-3 overall on the season.

Senior guard Logan Kohrmann (Bartelso, IL/Breese Central) recorded a career best 31 points for the Bearcats in the non-conference loss. Kohrmann recorded 14 points in the first half and 17 in the second to keep McKendree competitive. Alongside the points, Kohrmann also tallied two rebounds, one assist, and one steal for the Bearcats.

McKendree opened competition strong putting points up on the board first with a Kohrmann layup in the first minute of play. Back-and-forth play ensued amongst the Bearcats and Bulldogs until McKendree went on a 10 unanswered point run to go up 20-10 over Union within the first ten minutes of the half. The Bulldogs answered back with a small point run of their own but the Bearcats managed to hold a 36-34 lead heading into halftime.

The Bearcats experienced a lull in their play to start the second half allowing the Bulldogs to get an early lead. The largest deficit the Bearcats faced was 20 points with 13:31 remaining in the game down, 58-38. McKendree slowly chipped away at Union's lead cutting the difference to single digits but it was not enough to overpower the Bulldogs and the Bearcats fell, 80-69.

Other leading scorers for McKendree were freshman forward Jakobie Robinson (Indianapolis, IN/Warren Central), freshman forward Bryson Bultman (Nashville, IL/Nashville), and junior guard Oliver Stephen (Edwardsville, IL/Edwardsville). Robinson recorded 10 points, Bultman collected nine, and Stephen followed suit with seven. Stephen was also a key defensive player for the Bearcats, tallying seven rebounds, just one behind McKendree's leader, sophomore forward Aleksa Popovic (Belgrade, Serbia/BC Partizan Belgrade) who recorded eight rebounds.

McKendree's bench out-shot the Bulldogs, 12-4 on the day but Union was able to capitalize more on turnovers and second chance points than the Bearcats. Up until the last five minutes of play, McKendree was 19 out of 19 from behind the free throw line and finished the game 19 out of 22 or 86.36 percent, a new season best.

The Bearcats will resume competition with the Quincy Holiday Classic Dec. 14-15 with games against Lincoln University and Hannibal-Lagrange University.
