(LEBANON, Ill., Feb. 2) – The McKendree University men's volleyball team defeated Alderson Broaddus, 3-0 in its last match of the Lindenwood Invitational. The Bearcats went 2-1 over the weekend and are now 3-4 overall on the season.
The Bearcats started the match 7-0 against the Battlers which set the tone for the remainder of the game. McKendree handled Alderson Broaddus a 25-10, a 25-11, and a 25-17 loss in three straight sets for the final day of tournament competition. The Bearcats defeated Lourdes in the first match of the Invitational, 3-1 and then fell to No. 1 Long Beach State in the second match, 3-0.
Offensively, sophomore outside hitter
Ethan Carroll (Barrington, IL/Barrington) led the team with nine kills followed by junior middle blocker
Lucas Galifos (Mokena,IL/Lincoln Way East) with five. Then, four Bearcats, freshman middle blocker
Tommy McGrath (Paradise Valley, AZ/Brophy College Prep), freshman outside hitter
Brendon Dunn (Sherman Oaks, CA/Notre Dame), sophomore outside hitter
Patrick Ross (Anthem, AZ/Boulder Creek), and senior outside hitter
Will Frank (Moro, IL/Edwardsville), recorded five kills each throughout the match. Freshman setter
Ryan Serrano (Anthem, AZ/Boulder Creek) set up these Bearcats 30 times throughout the three set match. Serrano also managed a personal season high of four service aces against the Battlers.
Defensively, senior libero
Zach Thompson (Defiance, MO/Francis Howell) led the way with eight total digs. Seven other Bearcats also tallied digs in the three set match. At the net defensively, seven Bearcats recorded at least one block assist. McGrath led the way with three, Serrano, Carroll, Ross, Galifos, and Dimke each had two, and Frank tallied one block assist.
McKendree will kick of Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) play this week with matches against Ball State University and Purdue Fort Wayne on the road on Feb. 7 and Feb. 8.
