(EVANSVILLE, Ind., Mar. 16) – The McKendree University softball team went 0-2 in their first round of Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) competition against the University of Southern Indiana, falling 5-0 in game one and dropping game two by the score of 8-6. The Bearcats are now 13-13 on the season as they head into the second half of their 2019 regular season campaign.
 
Game one saw the Screaming Eagles never give up the lead, scoring one run in both the second and fifth innings, and sending three runs home in the fourth. McKendree had plenty of chances to get on the board, with crucial runs left on base in the fifth and sixth innings.
 
In game two Southern Indiana ran out to an early 2-0 lead. The Bearcats got moving offensively in the fourth inning when the McKendree batters put up six runs, highlighted by a three-run homer sent over the outfield fence by sophomore Shelby Summer (Washington, IL/Washington). USI answered with two runs in the fifth to bring the Bearcat lead to just two, and then hit a three-run homer of their own plus a sacrifice fly, sealing an 8-6 victory for the Screaming Eagles.
 
Up next, McKendree will take on the Knights of Bellarmine University in Louisville, KY on Sunday, March 17 in a GLVC doubleheader starting at 11:00 AM CT.
