(LEBANON, Ill., Mar.31) - The McKendree University softball team suffered two losses earlier this Sunday in a doubleheader against the Tritons of the University of Missouri-St. Louis, falling in game one 5-1 and game two 3-2. The Bearcats are now 15-19 overall on the 2019 campaign and are still looking for their first Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) win of the season.
Game one was controlled by UMSL for the most part, after stringing together a three-run third inning and capping off their scoring with two more runs in the top of the sixth. The Bearcats were able to get one run on the board in the bottom of the sixth after a fielding error committed by the Tritons.
Caitlyn Lowry (St. Louis, MO/Notre Dame) was 1-3 at the plate while scoring the lone run for McKendree.
In game two, the Bearcats would get on the board first in the bottom of the first inning as well as another run in the bottom of the fifth, and would not relinquish the lead until the top of the seventh. With two outs on the board in favor of McKendree, UMSL mustered a two-run homer that would tie the game at two and for extra innings after the Bearcat batters were unable to secure runs in the bottom of the seventh. In the top of the eighth, the Tritons put one more run on the board and secured their 3-2 win.
McKendree softball will be back in action the Monday, April 1st as they face Maryville University in another GLVC doubleheader which will begin at 12:00 p.m.
