(LEBANON, Ill., March 8) – The McKendree University men's volleyball team earned a 3-0 sweep over Midwestern Intercollegiate Volleyball Association (MIVA) opponent Quincy University on Friday. The Bearcats are now 8-8 overall on the season and 5-4 in MIVA action.
McKendree opened up the match with a freshman setter
Ryan Serrano (Anthem, AZ/Boulder Creek) service ace which set the precedent for the remainder of the game. The first set was the closest margin with the Bearcats earning the win, 25-22. From there, McKendree collected the win in the second and third set, both 25-19.
Two Bearcats hit over .500 on the match to lead the offense. Sophomore outside hitter
Patrick Ross (Anthem, AZ/Boulder Creek) earned a .778% with seven kills on nine total attacks while sophomore middle blocker
Wyatt Dimke (Ham Lake, MN/Blaine) collected a .563% with 11 kills on 16 total attempts. Junior middle blocker
Lucas Galifos (Mokena,IL/Lincoln Way East) and junior opposite
Zach Schnittker (Arlington Heights, IL/Buffalo Grove) were also key offensive players for McKendree, Galifos with eight kills and Schnittker with six.
Defensive efforts were led by Serrano and freshman libero
Francisco Comas (Naperville, IL/Neuqua Valley High School). Serrano tallied eight digs to lead the Bearcats while Comas was close behind with seven. Schnittker also recorded five digs in the McKendree win.
Next up for the Bearcats is a road match against Lindenwood University on March 15 at 7 p.m. in St. Charles, Mo.
