(KANSAS CITY, Mo., Apr. 28) - The McKendree University softball team concluded their 2019 campaign with a pair of victories over the Hawks of Rockhurst University earlier this Sunday afternoon, winning game one 9-3 and game two 9-2. The Bearcats finish the year with a 20-32 overall record.
Game one saw McKendree explode offensively in the third and fourth innings, sending in a total of seven runs which included two solo homers in the third courtesy of
Miranda Gajewski (Kronenwetter, WI/D.C. Everest) and
Shelby Summer (Washington, IL/Washington), followed by a two run home-run in the top of the fourth off the bat of
Hannah Murphy (O'Fallon, MO/Fort Zumwalt North). To accompany the hot bats from the McKendree dugout, Murphy also allowed just seven hits through seven innings while in the pitcher's circle.
In game two, the Bearcat bats were back in action scoring eight of their nine runs through the second and fourth innings, while limiting the Hawks to just two runs which were scored in the first and seventh innings. Gajewski went 2-5 at the plate hitting one double and sending in three RBIs, while
Abbie Bailey (Tinley Park, IL/Andrew) went 3-4 sending in two RBIs and scoring two runs herself. In the pitcher's circle,
Kylee Silliman (Fremont, IA/Oskaloosa) threw five strike-outs en route to picking up the final victory of the 2019 season.
Sunday's wins mark the second time this season that McKendree has swept a Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC) opponent, first doing so against Drury on Saturday, April 6.
