(ST. LOUIS, Mo., April 6)—The McKendree University baseball team dropped both ends of a Great Lakes Valley Conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Maryville University. The host Saints won by scores of 11-0 and 12-1.
The Bearcats are now 9-22 overall and 6-14 in GLVC play. The Bearcats will head east to Evansville, Ind., Tuesday evening for another league contest at the University of Southern Indiana. First pitch is set for 6 p.m.
Senior infielder
Adam Cox (Louisville, IL/North Clay) led the McKendree offense on Saturday with three hits, including a pair in game one. Junior outfielder
Jordan Richardson (O'Fallon, IL/O'Fallon) drove in the Bearcats' run in the nightcap, which was scored by senior infielder
Matt Klosterman (Belleville, IL/Belleville West).
After Maryville (18-15, 14-6 GLVC) registered the game one victory, McKendree jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the nightcap. Klosterman reached on an error to lead off the contest and moved to second on another Saints' miscue. Richardson stepped to the plated with two outs and delivered a single to center field that plated Klosterman with the Bearcats' run. The Saints took the lead for good with a seven-run second inning and slowly extended its advantage to finish off the sweep.
Following Tuesday's game at Southern Indiana, McKendree will return home next weekend to host the University of Illinois Springfield in a three-game GLVC series.
