(ST. PETERS, Mo., Sept. 14) – The McKendree University men's club water polo team opened its four game weekend with an 16-3 win against the University of Missouri while falling to Lindenwood University, 25-5.
The Bearcats move to 2-1 overall on the young season.
Game One
In the opening game against Missouri, junior
Brandon Kavanaugh (Hawthorn Woods, IL/Mundelein Cons. High School) led the attack with three goals in the contest. Seniors
Toby Stewart (Cincinnati, OH/Mason High School),
Jackson Smith (McHenry, IL/McHenry West High School), sophomores
Peter Germuska (Encinitas, CA/La Cost Canyon High School),
Kyle Moore (Whittier, CA/La Habra High School), and freshman
Connor Pulido (Chicago Ridge, IL/Harold L Richards High School) all contributed two tallies in the victory.
Senior
Andrew Ruelas (Riverside, CA/John W. North High School), sophomore
Owen Martin (Flower Mound, TX/Flower Mound High School), and freshman
Ethan Hansen (St. Louis, MO/Oakville High School) each added in a single goal.
Senior
Anthony Murat (Chicago, IL/Buffalo Grove High School) collected eight saves, and two steals while allowing just three goals in the cage.
Game Two
The Bearcats struggled to gain any defensive momentum against the Lions, resulting in 25 goals. Smith led the way with two goals while Germuska, Pulido, and Kavanaugh finished out the scoring.
Murat recorded 11 saves in the cage and notched three steals in the loss.
McKendree will be right back at the pool tomorrow morning at 8:40am as they open the day with Missouri S&T.
